Painted Door (v2)

Lyrics

I woke behind the brickwork Pinned in black and white
A lock across the doorway Painted shut in light
My brush lay on the pavement My footsteps stayed in ink
I tried to flee the mural life Before the colours blink
I scraped a line through crosshatch Kicked the wet wall twice
Then caught a shot of daylight Like a coin of polished ice
Unlock me, unlock me, unlock me now
I'm more than the figure They painted me proud
I'll throw that bright key Through the rain slick street
Escape this mural life On my own two feet
The double step from brickwork Wearing my waistcoat tight
He held my borrowed heartbeat Underneath the paper light
He said, stay in the picture You were made to obey
I folded up the daylight And tucked it in my sleeve
One swing against the doorway One crack across the frame
The whole district started moving When I called my name
Unlock me, unlock me, unlock me free
The painted man is opening me
I hand back the bright key Let the old walls retreat
I escape this mural life Breath, blood and feet
Unlock
